beauty in magnitude.

it has been a little while since i have posted anything in my mini-series regarding rural life in western nebraska. i guess the peace and openness of the prarie just really struck me here. reading 'zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance', the author speaks of how the vastness and magnitude of our surroundings escapes us when we travel in cars, as the scenery is broken up by the panes of the windows, and the sky is hidden by the roof (no matter how many sun/moonroofs are installed). i have really come to understand what he meant through these ideas, as i have spent much of the summer wandering the undeveloped, wide-open grasslands of western nebraska. it goes on forever. feelings of insignificance and awe come to mind, as well as being at peace and striving to find myself and God. i really do not think there is a better place to be for deep soul searching, no matter what your creed or background is, than alone in a vast and undeveloped region.
